IODINE RECORDINGS

Iodine Recordings began in 1996 distributing punk and hardcore records from a tiny, cramped apartment in Boston, MA via mail-order and print catalogs. Iodine later evolved into a record label that became well known for its contributions to the independent music scene throughout New England. Soon, the label became home to a number of notable bands and artists that would later be highly influential in underground music. Iodine was influenced by labels like Sub Pop and Dischord, and they tried to develop a brand that was known for quality rather than a particular genre or sound.

In 2004, due to financial difficulty, Iodine made the very difficult decision to shut down and close the label. This decision left many bands feeling lost and without a home. Iodine grew too fast with a large number of releases in their final year and were unable to keep up with growing costs and expenses. Casey, the label’s founder, closed shop and travelled the world, including hiking the entire Appalachian Trail and living in the Nepal Himalayas, yet he never felt right about how things ended with Iodine.

Seventeen years later the idea came to revitalize the label and reissue many of the out of print records in the Iodine catalog. After an overwhelming and positive response from fans and the industry that idea quickly evolved. Iodine started getting attention from old friends as well as new bands and the label quickly signed a number of artists including: Jeromes Dream, Onelinedrawing, The Darling Fire, Audio Karate, and more.

Iodine will always remain a small indie label that will continue to focus on producing the best independent and underground music they can find.
