Lord Snow "Have You Heard of the High Elves"

LP - $17.25
STREET DATE: 6/5/26
CAT#: VIS032
LABEL: Persistent Vision

Chicago’s Lord Snow are standard-bearers in DIY, reaching a global albeit cult status by playing dense and technical screamo. Lord Snow began in 2011 through two sets of high school friends; bassist Steph Maldonado, guitarist Niko Zaglaras, drummer Erik Anderson, and vocalist An Lacy released an untitled demo EP and another called “Sovngarde.” Following Lacy’s departure in 2012, Maldonado became the band’s primary singer and Lord Snow released 3 more EP’s, an LP, 2 compilation appearances, and a split LP, as well as international tours in Mexico, Europe, and Canada. Now, with Lacy’s exciting return, Lord Snow has created something of a retrospective meditation on their past work. Lord Snow’s newest release, “Have You Heard Of The High Elves” is a reimagining of previously released material with Lacy performing Maldonado’s vocal parts.

Though they cite perfunctory screamo influences as France’s Daitro, Italy’s La Quiete, and California’s Funeral Diner and Loma Prieta, Lord Snow are deeply unique in their approach and widely known for their proficiency and lo-fi recordings. Lord Snow’s style is earmarked by the jazz feel of their songs; tempos fluctuate and, at times, break down altogether. At other times, each member is playing with an intensity and precision that could only be likened to another of Lord Snow’s influences: Amherst, Massachusetts legends Ampere. Zaglaras’ chords are passionate and doleful, switching rapidly between fingerpicking and strumming, Anderson’s very fill-heavy, frantic, and frankly astounding drumming often resides at the edge of human capability, and Maldonado’s vocals range between melodic singing and larynx-thrashing screams that often bleed into each other. The same can be said of Lacy, even from the time of Sovngarde, but they approach the tracks written in their absence with a style and presence entirely their own.

Like many of Lord Snow’s other recordings, “Have You Heard Of The High Elves” was recorded entirely by the band, doing their parts remotely in their respective locations in Chicago, LA, NYC, and Cleveland, practicing them virtually. The songs are hardly lo-fi this time, however, with punk producer-extraordinaire Jack Shirley handling mixing and mastering.

Persistent Vision is honored to partner with Chicago’s Lord Snow on a reissue of their first album, “Solitude”. First released in 2013 and largely unavailable for the past several years, the groundbreaking “Solitude” delivers eleven tracks of intensely chaotic, emotional hardcore.

NOT AVAILABLE FOR DISTRO IN EU/UK

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Votive delivers a unique blend of intense heavy music, drawing influence from screamo, black metal, crust, and grind. The band features DIY veterans Eli Deitz (Porcelain), Rohan Lilauwala (Respire), Blake Given (ex-Portrayal of Guilt) and Kyle Rotta (ex-Gas Up Yr Hearse!). Since 2021, they have together sculpted a sound that is at once cathartic, caustic, and crushing.

An Infinite Capacity for Joy features nine blistering tracks built on a foundation of serrated riffs, convulsive, off-kilter rhythms that pulse and surge, and a gnawing, unbridled desperation punctuated by only brief moments of respite. Within this, Rotta delivers piercing meditations on forgiveness, self-improvement, and retribution, exploring the narrow border between existing and nothingness. Producer Phillip Odom (Militarie Gun, Glare, Portrayal of Guilt) deftly captures the band’s raw intensity, expanding jagged edges and intricate details into a massive, suffocating heaviness.

The 20th anniversary reissue of “Laisser Vivre les Squelettes,” the 2005 album from the iconic French band, Daitro.

Hailing from Lyon, France, Daitro delivered a perfect blend of hardcore and emo, proving that there are still some bands that possess the power and spirit of do-it-yourself punk that the original French emo movement held in the 90’s. They remain highly regarded and influential in the contemporary DIY screamo and post-hardcore scene.

Massa Nera "The Emptiness of All Things"

LP - $17.25
STREET DATE: 10/31/25
CAT#: VIS028
LABEL: Persistent Vision

Our present moment sees us grappling with the rise of end-times fascism, the annihilation of collective, shared meaning, and the looming threat of climate catastrophe. It is within this landscape that Massa Nera release their urgent, genre-defying 3rd LP, "The Emptiness of All Things."

Having been given a commission by the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music to create a work that addresses the climate crisis, Massa Nera embraced experimentation, confrontation, and musical malfeasance in an attempt to capture the hellish inanity that defines our reality. Where once their songs bounced, they now alternately lumber and convulse. Their former impulse towards dance has mutated into a desire for destruction.

Lyrically, Massa Nera has shunned autobiography in favor of something more character-driven, more literary, more speculative. They offer a snapshot of capitalistic delusion and existential paralysis, rooted in the anxieties and fractured psychologies of the here and now. In short, "The Emptiness of All Things" is a lyrical call to arms, delivered not as a rallying cry but as an obituary. It is a mirror held up to the abyss, reflected back at the listener without pity or mawkish sentiment.

Despite this, the band has not abandoned melody. The predominant mood of ugliness is counterbalanced by passages of beauty, longing, and even undisguised gentleness. This gentleness, however, is not in service of an unearned, misplaced optimism. It is offered in the spirit of reflection, allowing listener and band alike to take a breath as they stare into the void.

"The Emptiness of All Things" was recorded and mixed by Matt Michael (No Man, Majority Rule) and mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate). The LP comes packaged in a gatefold jacket with newsprint poster insert and limited colored vinyl.

Raein "Forme Sommerse"

LP - $17.50
STREET DATE: 10/24/25
CAT#: VIS027
LABEL: Persistent Vision

Following a triumphant return to live performances and several vinyl reissues last year, Italy’s RAEIN presents a brand new album, "Forme Sommerse" (Submerged Forms). Their first new music in ten years, "Forme Sommerse" consists of two seamless side-length songs across nearly thirty minutes - an emotionally complex, dynamic and graceful hardcore record from start to finish.

“It’s been ten years since our last recording. Ten years of change. It wasn’t a given we’d manage it again; clearly, what once was has cut deep—and stayed. We moved instinctively, as we always have, condensing these ten years of shifts and distances into half an hour of music. When we reflect on reality, it’s its submerged forms that move us; this record, true to tradition, is a tribute to what can’t be seen and to what compels us.”

Founded in 2002 in Italy, the band released a dizzying amount of music, across multiple splits, EPs and albums, while extensively touring the world during their original run. Reformed in 2023, Raein is considered to be one of the leaders in emotional post-hardcore, carrying a similar spirit and sound as bands like Orchid, Saetia, Pg.99, and others. Melding melody and discordance into something truly beautiful to experience.

"Forme Sommerse" comes packaged in a matte, full color gatefold jacket with printed inner sleeve and limited colored vinyl.

Kowloon Walled City "Turk Street"

LP - $17.25
STREET DATE: 08/08/25
CAT#: VIS025
LABEL: Persistent Vision

In the world of heavy music, few bands embrace dynamics and negative space like Oakland, CA’s Kowloon Walled City. Since forming 18 years ago, the band has increasingly refined its deconstructed approach to noise rock, math rock, and sludge.

Out of print for the past several years, Persistent Vision is proud to present a much needed and overdue reissue of Kowloon Walled City’s first release, “Turk Street.” Originally released in 2008, the five song EP captures the band at their heaviest, grittiest and most pummeling. Where the band later explored quieter, minimalist dynamics, “Turk Street” finds them leaning hard into their noise rock and sludge roots, taking inspiration from bands such as Shallow North Dakota, Unsane and Neurosis.

“Turk Street” was engineered and mixed by guitarist Scott Evans, whose engineering work includes Sumac, Great Falls, and others. The 12" release comes packaged in a full color jacket with matte finish, and is available on two color variants, Red Cloudy and Grey Cloudy, each limited to 250 copies.

TRACK LISTING:
01. Turk, Taylor, and Jones 02. My Hands Are Turning To Bricks 03. Another Corporate Takeover 04. Inheritance 05. Make Us Pay

MARKETING POINTS:

  • Out of print for 8+ years, Kowloon Walled City’s debut “Turk Street” is finally back on vinyl, available on two limited color variants
  • In 2025, Kowloon Walled City toured with Coalesce, Young Widows, and Fotocrime, and played Caterwaul Festival (Minneapolis) and Prepare the Ground Festival (Toronto)

Pygmy Lush "TOTEM"

LP - $17.25 / CD - $7.00 / CASSETTE - $7.00.
STREET DATE: 7/11/25
CAT#: VIS024
LABEL: Persistent Vision

TOTEM is the first new album from Virginia's Pygmy Lush in 14 years. Like their previous output, it was recorded and mixed by longtime friend and collaborator of the band, Kurt Ballou, at GodCity Studio in Massachusetts in April 2016. And as with their other three full lengths, Pygmy Lush — the band sworn to never break up, only take breaks — is readily recognizable here: a bit different, and a bit the same. Unlike their earlier work though, TOTEM sat (or stood, fully formed and erect) complete, yet unheard — unreleased, “shelved” or “lost” — until now.

As sure as you can’t unring a bell, the album’s 11 songs are no less than eight years old, but couldn’t be unmade short of direct and total cataclysm. If you already know Pygmy Lush and their modus operandi over these last two decades, you already know to check your baggage and leave all expectations behind. When others zig, Pygmy Lush zag. When the show is loud, Pygmy Lush are quiet. And so it goes. TOTEM is no exception, but also stands alone within the band's body of work, a monolithic sum of its Pygmy Lush parts.

The Taylor brothers, Mike and Chris, are here, as is Pygmy Lush mainstay Mike Widman. You won’t find Johnny Ward this go around, but life partners and rhythm section extraordinaires Andy Gale and Erin McCarley are crucial new tiers among the seismic sonic and cosmic shifts coursing through TOTEM’s roughly 40 minute — epic yet direct — running time.

The result is a heavy rock album that’s actually aware of the 21st century: all-at-once comfortable with its punk rock, noise rock and art rock roots. It’s a grunge stunt pedigree, signaling the puddles of drool pooling around snooze gaze contemporaries and an altogether beat hardcore flock.

Chris Taylor’s melodic bark hasn’t been this nimble since his post-Pageninetynine output with Malady, while the Mike’s — Taylor and Widman — dish out a heady maelstrom of strings on par with Moore and Renaldo’s finest foundational moves. Similarly, Erin McCarley’s low-end verve and rationed vocals are transcendent; unmistakably her own while of a piece with the band. Andy Gale can and does beat the shit outta his kit here: disciplined and certain. There’s no rules, just right.

Matching its expansive sonics and lacerating lyrical content, TOTEM is also a feast for your eyes, compliments of new sculptural artwork designed by Paul Nitsche, whose epic pieces have graced past work for Dazzling Killmen and Andrew Bird. This gorgeously packaged LP comes in a matte jacket with copper foil stamp and includes a foldout poster with collaged lyrics.

Following an unexpected return to live performance in late 2024 with their memorable set on NPR's Tiny Desk, then their international debut at Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands, Pygmy Lush have resumed their eternal whirr full force. Whether you’ve been saving a place at home for TOTEM, on your shelves alongside their Bitter River, Mount Hope and Old Friends albums, or, this is the very first piece to construct your own personal Pygmy Lush puzzle, the band and this album’s timeline are a “Nonsensical Whisper” that continues to rip and roar. The sound is immortal, and these tunes are as vital now as their first time ringing out. Tell your grandkids it’s Nirvana, or Born Against, or Document 13 and a half.

TRACK LISTING:
01. House of Blood (Butch’s Monster)
02. It Wasn’t a Compliment (Martial Law Blues)

Joliette "Pérdidas Variables"

LP - $17.25
STREET DATE: 6/20/25
CAT#: VIS026
LABEL: Persistent Vision

Described by BrooklynVegan as "a raw-yet-beautiful dose of screamo," Joliette has been an unstoppable force in the Mexican scene since 2011.

On the upcoming new album, “Pérdidas Variables,” the band's debut for Persistent Vision, the quartet takes the urgency of scene heroes like Saetia and Raein and laces it with the brooding, post-metal grandeur of Neurosis or Cult of Luna. While some bands in the genre use sloppiness as their medium, wielding chaos to convey emotional fragility, Joliette moves as steadily as a freight train.

The rhythm section of Hugo Madrid and Matías Acuña bangs and growls in perfect, propulsive unity, while the guitars of Gastón Prado and Juan Pablo Castillo combine into apocalyptic storm clouds of sound. Screaming in his native Spanish, Gastón Prado's earnest voice transcends language barriers. Loud in the mix, his raspy pleas demands attention as they transmit universal angst.

“Pérdidas Variables” is an album inspired by Joliette's hometown. "It’s a meditation on Mexico City," states Juan Pablo Castillo, "as both a physical space and a psychological one, a place constantly shifting under your feet, full of layers, ruins, and noise. The lyrics are rooted in very real fears, earthquakes, collapse, systems failing, but they’re also about the quiet, daily sense of disconnection and mourning that urban life can bring. Each song looks at a different fragment of that experience."

“Pérdidas Variables” was recorded by Matías Acuña and Fernando G. Esteve, mixed by Hugo Madrid, and mastered by Paolo Riffo. The LP comes packaged in full color jacket with limited vinyl options.

TRACK LISTING:

Ostraca "Eventualities"

LP - $17.25 / CASSETTE - $7.00
STREET DATE: 4/18/25
CAT#: VIS023
LABEL: Persistent Vision

For over a decade now, Richmond titans Ostraca have written works definitive of screamo as a punk subgenre. Their catalogue is deceptive in its relative brevity; Ostraca’s habit of offering songs in groups of three and six gives each track a specific and undeniable gravity. Of course, this is no steadfast rule; for Ostraca, the distinction between EP and LP is immaterial, much the way Loma Prieta contended two decades ago. In 2017, they released two songs on Yarrow, a split with Coma Regalia, Vril, and Untold Want, one of which has been re-recorded for "Eventualities".

After taking five years between "Enemy" in 2018, and "Disaster" in 2023, the trio of bassist Gus Caldwell, guitarist Brian Russo, and drummer John Crogan showed that Ostraca is an unflappable mainstay in the world of emotive post-hardcore that they inhabit. The drama and passion expected of Ostraca’s work is only magnified by the dynamic shifts in their writing, earmarked by the inclusion of other genres in their style, like crust, metal, and post-rock. Their aptitude for this demarcates them from the entirety of their peers. Ostraca builds on the same tradition as German greats June Paik, creating heart-wrenching atmospheres driven by melodies that oscillate between resolution and discordance.

"Eventualities" was recorded in 2024 and was engineered, mixed and mastered by Danny Gibney, who the band worked with on Disaster. Comes packaged in a matte, full color jacket with insert and limited colored vinyl.

01. Song For A Closed Door

Kowloon Walled City "Gambling on the Richter Scale"

LP - $17.25
STREET DATE: December 13, 2024
CAT#: VIS020
LABEL: Persistent Vision

In the world of heavy music, few bands embrace dynamics and negative space like Oakland, CA’s Kowloon Walled City. Since forming 17 years ago, the band has increasingly refined its deconstructed approach to noise rock, math rock, and sludge.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, Persistent Vision is proud to present a much needed reissue of Kowloon Walled City’s first album, "Gambling on the Richter Scale". Initially released in 2009, the album laid the groundwork for a series of subsequent albums over the years including Container Ships, Grievances, and Piecework, released via labels such as Neurot Recordings, Gilead Media, and Brutal Panda Records.

This early album is a snapshot of the band’s sound in a much dirtier, noisier, sludgier environment. Kowloon Walled City have always been a band focused on tone and atmosphere with their unique style of heaviness, and the very intentional grit on this album shows another face to a band that has grown to embrace a cleaner, overdriven sound in recent years.

Gambling on the Richter Scale was recorded and mixed by guitarist/vocalist Scott Evans, whose engineering work includes Sumac, Great Falls, Old Man Gloom, and many others. The record comes packaged in a full color matte finish jacket with two color vinyl variants, Ice Blue & Black Galaxy and Violet & Black Galaxy, each limited to 150 copies.

TRACK LISTING:

04. Sleep Debt
05. Paper Houses
06. Gambling on the Richter Scale

Fórn "Repercussions Of The Self"

LP - $17.25 / CASSETTE - $7.00
LP UPC: 765464057181
STREET DATE: 10/25/24
CAT#: VIS019
LABEL: Persistent Vision

Pioneers of "funeral sludge," FÓRN have been favorites of the metal underground since their formation over ten years ago. Kim Kelly, writing for SPIN in 2015, stated: "Rarely does a debut album spring forth from the womb so fully-formed and vital as Fórn's The Departure of Consciousness... The album's six, tense, foreboding compositions take their cues from Thou's poisonous sludge and funeral doom's lightless melancholia in equal measure, and come punctuated by sparse, blood-curdling howls... This album drags listeners into the utter depths of despair then leaves them there, alone, as the last light winks out."

Releasing music via labels such as Gilead Media, including a split with Yautja, the band went dark shortly after touring in support of its 2018 album, Rites of Despair. With a series of major events occurring in the personal lives of the band members -- births, deaths, and relocations across four states and two countries -- and with the COVID pandemic disrupting society as a whole, the years after Rites of Despair would serve as a crucial pause and reset, leading to the radical rebirth that is "Repercussions of the Self".

"Repercussions of the Self", Fórn's first new musical creation since 2018, bursts through the speakers with god-tier grandeur, mixing the downtuned sludge epics the band is known for, with a new, industrial, electronic dimension.

Notably, the album features Lane Shi Otayonii (Elizabeth Colour Wheel) contributing vocals and electronics across all its six tracks. A past collaborator, Otayonii makes her debut here as a full-fledged contributing member of Fórn.

"Repercussions of the Self" was engineered and mixed by Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations in Baltimore, Maryland and mastered by James Plotkin at Plotkinworks. The artwork is a collaboration between Alexander L. Brown and Devin Toye.

Vinyl comes packaged in a full color jacket with a printed inner sleeve.

Blind Girls "An Exit Exists"

LP - $17.25 / CASSETTE - $7.50
LP UPC: 641956287123
STREET DATE: 7/26/24
CAT#: VIS014 / SV29
LABEL: Persistent Vision / Secret Voice

In the decade that Blind Girls have spent making blistering and technical screamo, their efforts have resulted in 2 albums, 3 EP's, a split, and a single. The 2022 album from the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia quintet, The Weight of Everything, is a crushing exploration of seamless discord. Blind Girls' tempestuous performances have earned them a dedicated following in their home country, further expanded by tours in Japan, Canada and the United States. While performing the unrelenting material of The Weight of Everything over two years around the world, Blind Girls quietly administered higher doses of melody in new work, giving more time and care to doleful passages of solitary guitar strumming that appeared in past songs. These songs, set to be jointly released through Persistent Vision and Secret Voice, make up Blind Girls new album, An Exit Exists.

Blind Girls have a distinct way of making entire works sound like a single composition, both live and on record, championing the punk tradition of playing with as few breaks as possible, if any. Ben Smith's extraordinarily intense drumming is akin to bands like Ampere and Converge, the frantic riffage of guitarists Julian Currie, Luke Sweeney, and bassist Mark Grant is simultaneously representative of current hardcore and reminiscent of metalcore of days past, and the throat-lacerating screams of vocalist Sharni Brouwer are in a class shared perhaps only with Jerome's Dream. This is no small feat. Still yet, the tracks on An Exit Exists are more powerful than ever before, as Blind Girls employ the same engineering team of Brock Weston for recording and Rollie Ulug for mixing and mastering as they did for The Weight of Everything. The band was intent on harnessing the familiarity built with the two for An Exit Exists, and as listeners are pulled through the record, it's clear that they have once again overseen Blind Girls achieving new heights of sonic extremity, now stitched together by passages of deeply emotional musicality.

The emotion in the heavily incorporated melodies, not to mention the face-ripping breakdowns and thrashing blast beats, of An Exit Exists are the complement to its conceptual theme addressing abuse. Brouwer explains, "An Exit Exists was written during and retrospectively on two separate instances dealing with abuse from those I loved. Each song is a reflection on the emotions and process I went through from realization, feeling trapped, guilt, defeat, acceptance and eventually finding a safe way out."

A special, ten-year anniversary reissue of "The Departure of Consciousness", the debut LP from funeral sludge ensemble, FÓRN. Formed in 2012 during a particularly dismal and harsh Boston winter, FÓRN draws inspiration from their predecessors, Grief, Burning Witch and Noothgrush, while remaining true to their natural progression. Their 2014 debut, "The Departure of Consciousness", originally released via Vendetta Records and Gilead Media, took the doom and sludge world by surprise. It garnered instant critical acclaim, bringing them to prestigious festivals, stages, tours, and even a memorable performance in a seaside cave. Released to coincide with their return to live performances, this reissue comes ahead of a brand new album due out in September 2024.

Prisoner "Putrid | Obsolete"

LP - $17.25
LP UPC: 765464057099
STREET DATE: 3/15/24
CAT#: VIS010
LABEL: Persistent Vision

In the six years since Richmond VA quintet Prisoner released their first LP, "Beyond The Infinite", the entire world fell apart. Already somewhat apocalypse-curious, the band decided to ride the current wave of doom as far as it would take them, adding synth player Adam Lake in order to bring a greater emphasis on noise, samples, and electronic sound textures. The result is their new full-length, "Putrid | Obsolete", which layers the nightmarish crust/hardcore and blackened metal of their earlier material in a thick coating of harsh industrial noise and gloom.

Floating amid a polluted sea of atonal samples and ominous synth soundwaves, crunching guitars lay down brutal 100mph riffs over a powerful rhythm section crunch, even as multiple demonic voices unleash anguished roars. With apologies to TS Eliot, this is the real way the world ends: amid an unrelenting wave of industrial metal/punk brutality.

"Putrid | Obsolete" was produced, recorded and mixed by Ricky Olson at the Ward (Enforced, .GIF From God) and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege.

TRACK LISTING:

  1. Flesh Dirge
