Hailing from Austin, Texas, Votive delivers a unique blend of intense heavy music, drawing influence from screamo, black metal, crust, and grind. The band features DIY veterans Eli Deitz (Porcelain), Rohan Lilauwala (Respire), Blake Given (ex-Portrayal of Guilt) and Kyle Rotta (ex-Gas Up Yr Hearse!). Since 2021, they have together sculpted a sound that is at once cathartic, caustic, and crushing.

Following critical acclaim for their debut LP, 2024’s Towards the Pillory, their latest offering finds the band at their most unrelenting yet. An Infinite Capacity for Joy features nine blistering tracks built on a foundation of serrated riffs, convulsive, off-kilter rhythms that pulse and surge, and a gnawing, unbridled desperation punctuated by only brief moments of respite. Within this, Rotta delivers piercing meditations on forgiveness, self-improvement, and retribution, exploring the narrow border between existing and nothingness. Producer Phillip Odom (Militarie Gun, Glare, Portrayal of Guilt) deftly captures the band’s raw intensity, expanding jagged edges and intricate details into a massive, suffocating heaviness.

Limited 12” LP with a silkscreened B side, full color jacket and lyric sheet, available on two limited vinyl variants. The cassette version features alternative artwork with two limited colors available.

Only Living Witness’ Prone Mortal Form is housed in a wide-spine jacket that holds the album as well as a bonus 12” featuring demos/outtakes that have never been on vinyl before. The album comes with an 8-page booklet complete with rare photos, flyers, original art, posters, lyric sheets, and more from Jonah Jenkins’ (vocals) personal archives. The booklet also contains insights from those influenced by this album, including Aaron Dalbec (Be Well/Bane/Converge), Chris Gonzalez (End It), Jesse Leach & Mike D. (Killswitch Engage), Brian Fair (Shadows Fall/Overcast), producer Tim O’Heir, Jem Aswad (Variety Magazine), Iann Robinson (MTV), and the band’s late drummer, Eric Stevenson. The audio, including the bonus tracks, was mastered for vinyl by Jeff Lipton at Peerless Studios who, with Eric by his side, mastered the 2006 expanded CD editions. Additionally, the album’s packaging was modernized, and rebuilt by Tom Bejgrowicz—known for his work with Quicksand, Beastie Boys, Johnny Cash, Snapcase, Eyehategod, and more.

Deadguy recorded five songs with Steve Evetts at Trax East studios in February 1994, three of which were pressed onto the band’s first 7” single, “White Meat.” The other two tracks, “Body Parts” and an early version of their stand-out track “Die With Your Mask On,” sat on a cassette given to Tom Bejgrowicz by drummer Dave Rosenberg in the mid-90s and are only available on this 7”.
