Mallavora are a blazing force in alt-metal, fusing ferocious riffs with elements of R&B, soul, and the rich cultural heritage of vocalist Jessica Douek’s Jewish-Middle Eastern roots. Since emerging in 2020, the band has carved out a reputation as one of the most exciting rising acts in heavy music, with support from BBC Radio 1, Kerrang! Radio and acclaimed rock and metal press such as Metal Hammer, Kerrang! and Alt Press.

2024 saw the band make their Download Festival debut, undertake their first UK headline tour, and secure huge support slots with powerhouse bands such as Skindred. Following the release of their EP “Echoes”, the band has enjoyed a busy schedule in 2025 - with appearances at 2000trees (main stage) and Alyx Holcombe’s MANTRA showcase.

In recent months, Mallavora have been popping up everywhere, from the stages of Boomtown and Burn It Down Festivals, to the catwalk at London Fashion Week where they provided the soundtrack to Unhidden's latest clothing range. Most recently, you may have heard vocalist Jessica’s incredible vocal abilities in an episode of BBC 1’s The Celebrity Traitors, a star-studded game show that features household names such as Stephen Fry, Alan Carr and Claudia Winkleman. Jess was called upon by the producers of the show to produce 'banshee-like’ wails, demonstrating her vocal range which stretches from beautiful high octave singing to the extremes of fry screaming.

All of Mallavora’s achievements have been leading to this moment: the announcement of their debut album 'What If Better Never Comes?'. Set for release on March 27th 2026 via Church Road Records, this record showcases the band's growth as songwriters and highlights their constant hunger to push the envelope.

"We are so proud to announce the release of our debut album, 'What If Better Never Comes?'. This record is a conceptual exploration of sickness - personal and societal - and it’s given us the space to express our experiences of difference in new and expansive ways. We hope its vulnerability, and the message it carries, brings comfort and catharsis to anyone who’s ever lived inside emotions too complex to name."

LABEL: Iodine Recordings

The Deluxe 2xLP includes 12 bonus tracks, including the lost God City Demos (Remixed by Kurt Ballou), presented with expanded art in a gatefold package.

Before Piebald were known for their anthemic sing-alongs and offbeat charm, there was Venetian Blinds, an evolution from hardcore roots into something uniquely their own with all of their trademark chaos and cleverness.

Originally released in 1999 on Big Wheel Recreation, “If It Weren’t For Venetian Blinds, It Would Be Curtains For Us All’’ brought Piebald’s blend of the sincere and the satirical to the 90’s emo and indie-rock scene

Now, Iodine Recordings proudly presents a deluxe reissue of this quintessential Record. Completely remastered for vinyl by Jack Shirley (Joyce Manor, Quicksand) at The Atomic Garden, and out of print since its original release. This remastered edition features fully updated artwork reconstructed from original source materials and photos, as well as a retrospective commentary written by the band.

Springing from the thriving Merrimack Valley scene that produced Converge and Cave In, Venetian Blinds’ bridged the gap between underground post-hardcore experimentation and the hook-driven songwriting that would soon define an era. Witty, heartfelt, and impossible to categorize, this deluxe reissue celebrates a crucial piece of Piebald’s history.

For more than three decades, Converge have delivered musical and emotional catharsis, putting purpose before perception and intent before interpretation. Whether it’s their 2001 landmark recording Jane Doe or their 2021 Bloodmoon: I collaboration with Chelsea Wolfe, they have created some of the most compelling music, lyrics, and visual art of the 21st century. During that time, fewer bands have had a greater impact on the underground imagination.

It seems unlikely that anyone who has been making music for this long would create one of their best works for their eleventh album, in their 35th year as a band. And yet: Love is Not Enough might be the apotheosis of Converge’s decades-long journey through the punk, hardcore and metal microcosm. What vocalist/lyricist Jacob Bannon, guitarist/producer Kurt Ballou, bassist/vocalist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller have created is a strident artistic statement on the turmoil of living that hones their collective strengths to a razor’s edge.

There isn’t an ounce of fat. Every song moves with a power and purpose that eclipses their human origins, that speaks to the anger, pain, and frustration of the modern age. From the opening fusillade of the title track to the closing hurricane of “We Were Never the Same,” Love Is Not Enough is a sonorous balance of vitality and viciousness that reflects the chaos and uncertainty of the times we live in.

“There’s always obstacles in the world,” Bannon says. “Personal, professional, economical, whatever. But I feel like we’re in a pressure cooker somewhere on our evolutionary line. It’s a lot just to be a human being in the modern world, trying to function, maintain, grow, have empathy, have compassion. It takes more than it used to, to do all those things.”

The album title itself says everything about the trials of today. “The line ‘Love is not enough’ is something I had kicking around for a while,” Bannon says. “Some of the things I wrote at the time were from a human resilience perspective, an acceptance of the brutality and unforgiving nature of the world. I was reflecting on that in poetic form and set it aside. When we got into the studio, it all fit together.”

“Bad Faith” is a deeply personal song about cruel intentions and limited options. “It came from watching someone I love being wronged and broken apart, and there was nothing I could do about it because there was no good intention in the first place,” Bannon says. “It’s that feeling of helplessness because nothing I could do or say could better the situation. I just had to love and support and do what I could to be there. But I couldn’t effect actual change. That’s a horrible feeling.”

“We Were Never The Same” recognizes the unrelatable in even the closest of relations. “That one was written about getting together with people at a funeral, finding commonality among a variety of people in your life at a time of loss and grief,” Bannon says. “We’ve all been through some version of that in our lives. If you listen to heavy music, you appreciate the time, you appreciate the faces, you appreciate the histories with different people and loved ones. But then the next day comes, all the regular stressors of everyday life kick in, and you don’t really connect the way you wish to after reflecting on the loss of somebody. I was processing all that stuff when I wrote the line, ‘Why do we all gather to mourn yet not to cherish?’ It’s an honest question.”

Love Is Not Enough features no special guests, no studio trickery, no relentless massaging of human imperfection in trying to manufacture the perfect take. “I think that realism is missing from a lot of modern music of any genre, but especially our genre,” Bannon says. “Things either go super raw and almost chaotic to the point where it's distracting, or bands take the life out of what they’re doing by editing every aspect. Sometimes the perfect take is the one that has some wildness to it. It's not perfectly executed. There’s a lot of powerful moments on this record and a lot of angry moments. The realism amplifies that.”

Unlike so many albums that adhere to a time-honored sequencing format, cherry-picking favored tracks for the all-important first, second, and final spots, Love Is Not Enough is all about momentum. “It does a thing that no other Converge record does—it keeps ramping up,” Bannon says. “And that’s definitely by design. Internally, we passed around dozens of ideas for sequencing because everyone interprets music differently and there’s no right way of doing it. When we do that, we always joke that we all have to be equally unhappy. But this is the one that works.”

Love Is Not Enough was recorded and mixed by Kurt Ballou at God City in Salem, Massachusetts, with engineering assistance from Zach Weeks. Jacob Bannon did the artwork and design, creating an image for each song and a commanding cover depicting a celestial witness to a world aflame.

“We still identify this band as the outlet that’s essential to our lives,” Bannon says. “We give everything we have to it. Being past your average middle age, we’re starting to see deeper than before into a variety of places. And I don’t think that’s specific to us. I think that’s something that’s utterly relatable.”

As part of its ongoing series of definitive reissues, Iodine Recordings proudly presents the 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Quicksand’s Manic Compression—a landmark of post-hardcore innovation and one of the defining albums of the 1990s. More than just a reissue, this edition restores the record’s sound and visual art in full, honoring the band’s enduring influence and the intensity that reshaped heavy music’s trajectory.

In celebration of this milestone, Iodine Recordings are presenting a limited-edition 64-page hardcover book chronicling the release and legacy of this influential album. The book includes a foreword by Walter Schreifels, never-before-seen photographs, original art, rare concert posters, and more from 1994–1995. It also features written tributes from members of Knocked Loose, Coheed and Cambria, New Found Glory, Bane, Orange 9mm, Limp Bizkit, Drug Church, Touché Amoré, P.O.D., Fiddlehead, Glassjaw, H2O, At the Drive-In, and others. Complete with a case-wrapped, soft-touch cover, this definitive companion piece is an essential addition to any fan’s collection.

If Slip announced Quicksand’s arrival, then Manic Compression proved they weren’t just a moment—they were a movement. Released in early 1995 on Island Records, the record built upon the foundation of their debut and expanded it into something sharper, darker, and more dynamic. Its tightly coiled songs fuse hardcore ferocity, metallic heft, and alt-rock melody into a streamlined 12-track assault that perfectly captured the tension of its time.

Opening track “Backward” throws listeners straight into the deep end with slashing guitars and rhythmic precision that set the tone for the album’s relentless pacing. Lead single “Thorn in My Side” finds Quicksand at their most immediate—raw urgency refined into anthemic form, earning heavy rotation on MTV’s 120 Minutes and carving the band’s place in the wider alt-rock landscape of the mid-’90s. Tracks like “Landmine Spring” and “Delusional” balance jagged riffs with space and atmosphere, proving Quicksand’s ability to stretch hardcore into entirely new terrain.

Upon release, Manic Compression peaked at No. 135 on the Billboard 200 and earned the band an invitation to the first-ever Warped Tour—milestones that carried their sound far beyond the hardcore underground and into the broader alternative rock conversation.

Manic Compression remains a testament to Quicksand’s evolution—more concise than Slip but no less visionary. Standing tall alongside the landmark records of its era, its DNA is unmistakably rooted in the New York Hardcore scene that forged its members. The record endures as one of the most influential documents of 1990s post-hardcore, leaving its mark on bands such as Deftones, Cave In, Thrice, and countless others.

Recorded by Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today), Tom Capone (Beyond, Bold), Sergio Vega (Deftones, Moondog), and Alan Cage (Beyond, Seaweed), Manic Compression was produced by Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Helmet) and Don Fury (Sick of it All, Agnostic Front)—figures whose fingerprints ground the record in both New York’s underground grit and its rising alternative ascent. Out of print for years, the 30th Anniversary Edition has been remastered for vinyl from the 1995 master tapes by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Joyce Manor) at The Atomic Garden. The deluxe gatefold jacket features expanded artwork, meticulously reconstructed from Melinda Beck’s archival sketches, and is available in several limited vinyl variants.

Manic Compression is both a time capsule and a timeless benchmark—restored in full and re-presented for a new generation of listeners.

“Dance Finite” may pulse with bright, dance-ready rhythms, but there’s a moody, shadowed core running beneath it—a beauty in the darkness. Coming out of California’s valley and led by songwriter Brandon Olds alongside Coleman Elliot, Jules Trifan, and Kaeleb Dummar, Dance of Days deliver a modern take on ’80s new wave and post-punk while naturally carrying the attitude of California punk. On their debut album, D.O.D. wear their influences openly: Peter Hook (New Order) style bass lines, the dark and heavy electronics of Depeche Mode and Sisters of Mercy, and the band name pulled from D.C. hardcore band, Embrace.

“Dance Finite” is an eight-track wave of apathy and gloom; heavy in emotion but still makes you want to move.

Hailing from Lyon, France, Daitro delivered a perfect blend of hardcore and emo, proving that there are still some bands that possess the power and spirit of do-it-yourself punk that the original French emo movement held in the 90’s. At the same time, Daitro no doubt created their own sound, full of unique intensity, passion, and atmosphere, demonstrated best on their celebrated album, “Laisser Vivre les Squelettes.” In their heyday, Daitro toured the globe throughout the early 2000’s and released several albums, EPs and split releases with bands such as Raein and Ampere. They remain highly regarded and influential in the contemporary DIY screamo and post-hardcore scene.

Featuring the album’s original illustrative album artwork by painter Sean Mahan, this updated deluxe edition comes packaged in a full color jacket with metallic copper foil with a printed inner sleeve, 24 page zine booklet, stickers, and a postcard. Co-released with Echo Canyon Records (France).

As evocative as the album title “I Want to Pull the Sleep From Your Eyes” is, Grief Mop stretch its imagery even further across their debut nine-track LP. The opener, “I Prefer to Be Nobody”, sets the tone with the line, “…and dreamt you were showing me your face covered up with bleach,” a lyric that plays out like a Lynchian film still. On the lead single, Strange World, Lacy sustains this eerie songwriting, screaming “rolling over in the dirt…it may best to just lie” as the track reaches its peak. Each song has its picture-painted moment, layered in abrasive drum-and-bass tones and dissolving guitar melodies. Grief Mop pull from a wide range of influences from emo, post-rock, and shoegaze bands like Mock Orange, Hum, The Appleseed Cast, and My Bloody Valentine to create this off-kilter, yet focused debut album.

CAT#: SDR-151
LABEL: Sunday Drive

Squint doesn’t slow down. Just a year after their LP Big Hand, the post-hardcore band returns with Drag—a six-track EP packed with grit and riffs. Recorded with punk/hardcore producer Andy Nelson at Bricktop Recording (Weekend Nachos, Harm’s Way, and more), the EP captures some of the band’s most straightforward yet dynamic work to date.

The record opens with “Squintro Pt. 2,” a 40-second callback to their debut EP Feel It, before flowing seamlessly into “Green Grass,” where a driving post-hardcore track evolves into a rhythmic, alt-rock-inspired anthem. This balance defines Drag: fast, urgent songwriting layered with dynamics that leave space for pauses, claps, and sing-alongs.

On Drag, Squint sound confident and sharp, moving effortlessly across moods and styles while always sounding like Squint.

12" EP - $16.60

CAT#: SDR-147
LABEL: Sunday Drive

With a foundation of San Diego’s punk influences from Drive Like Jehu, Blink-182, Heroin and others, a band like Glean naturally have a sense of melody. Formed in 2019 by four kids (now young adults), the band blends that melodic instinct with their love of punk and hardcore, crafting energetic, emotional, and catchy songs in the vein of Seaweed, Samiam, Jawbreaker, Lifetime, and Title Fight.

“Worlds Apart” is Glean’s first album in years and their debut on Sunday Drive Records. It feels like the record they’ve been building toward since their 2020 demo. Now with a refreshed lineup, the production of Max Epstein (Photographic Memory), and mastering by Phillip Odom (Militarie Gun, Glare, Ivy League TX), Glean have been able to write some of their catchiest songs yet. On lead single “Sediment,” Boucher and Barkley trade vocals over scratchy guitars that build up to the line, “I can feel you fall beneath the sediment.” That same energy flows into “Receive You,” featuring guest vocals from longtime friend Sam Allen (Anxious, G.I. Bill). Glean also pulls back on the track, “Exit Wound” that sounds much more quiet and intimate, almost like a lost Mineral or Texas is the Reason song.

“Worlds Apart” is sonically abrasive, while still carrying melody, poetic lyrics and tons of emotions.

TRACK LISTING:
01. Sediment
02. Receive You

04. No One
05. Exit Wound
06. Face to Face

There’s a strong and organic relationship with many Texas and Arkansas people in DIY music, including the music veterans in Little Rock’s, Peach Blush. The band plays a mix of alt-rock and post-punk, with flashes of garage rock and hardcore—largely inspired by the 80s wave of bands like Hüsker Dü, Dinosaur Jr or Mission of Burma. It creates a unique, surfy, and heavy sound. “Eradication of the Mind” is their first EP since 2022, and their first on Sunday Drive Records. With just three tracks, the band quickly deliver a wave of fast, and experimental punk, with themes of decay and distortion. “Eradication of the Mind” is a great re-introduction to the band as they’ve dialed-in on this unique sound that sounds like only Peach Blush can at this moment in time.

LABEL: Sunday Drive

There’s a slowness woven into the steadiness of the American South. While there’s beauty in that sentiment, it can also carry a lingering sense of being stuck and unable to move forward. From Oklahoma, Money first released their debut EP in 2022, followed by a couple of singles. “Stovepipe” marks the band’s long-awaited first album, and their first collection of new music in three years; something that their cult audience has been patiently awaiting.

On “Stovepipe”, Money continues to build on the sludgy, alt-metal foundations of their self-titled EP. Self-produced, with Joshua Warren on mixing and Kendal Osborne on mastering, the record captures the band’s biggest, heaviest sound to date.

‘Motion Sick’ finds Watkins reflecting on the weary cycles of life, yet embracing them: “The cycle continues…don’t pull me out, cause I have made my home here.” On ‘SVTLIGHTNING,’ the lyrics ache for escape: “I’m done growing older, wanna catch my breath and go away.” And with ‘The Little Season,’ they sound their most unique yet, swapping the big, distorted guitars for a minimal, acoustic son shaped by the country music that drifts through their hometown.

“Stovepipe” is Money’s most mature work, that offers a dynamic palette of sound and emotion, heavy but fleeting, and built to resonate even louder in a live setting.

Born out of Hudson Valley's ever-evolving scene in 2018, Age of Apocalypse has proven themselves to be the next evolutionary step in bringing metallic hardcore with sung vocals to a modern era.

The band is set to release their second full-length LP In Oblivion through Closed Casket Activities, due out May 23rd. The record takes everything that caught the world's attention on 2022’s Grim Wisdom and triples down on it all, showing their penchant for writing genuinely huge metallic hardcore epics without eschewing any of the frenetic energy inherent to the genre.

In Oblivion was produced by Taylor Young (Twitching Tongues, God's Hate) and partially recorded at The Pit. Young's work both as a musician and his clear history in playing hardcore centered around clean singing comes out in spades, as In Oblivion manages to help progress this dynamic into a new era. The record features guest appearances from Colin Young (Twitching Tongues, Holy Blade), Demonstration of Power, and Graham Sayle (High Vis), marking the first time the band has incorporated guest vocals on a release.

Singer Dylan Kaplowitz has truly come into his own as a frontman as his voice soars to operatic heights in one moment, crashing down to hellish lows in screaming the next. Opener "Mortal Coil" shows Kaplowitz standing comfortably next to what Steele, Caputo and Jenkins were doing in the 90s, while bringing his own flair and emotive ability to the forefront. The rest of the band flourishes equally, as Jack Xiques' riffs blend together everything from Stigmata, Section 8, Randy Rhoads and Paul Gilbert into a singular, thrilling sound. While many have tried and failed to bridge the gap between clean vocals and hardcore, Age of Apocalypse have taken the throne as modern masters of the sound.

Having already played with the likes of Sunami, Mindforce, High Vis, Indecision, Earth Crisis and more, 2025 will prove Age of Apocalypse is here, and there's no end in sight.

Ultraviolence "We Hate You"

LP - $15.30
STREET DATE: 12/05/25
CAT#: RADIO-027
LABEL: Radio Raheem

Ultra Violence, one of the most enigmatic New York Hardcore bands of the 1980s, finally gets their due with the release of their long-lost LP sessions originally recorded circa 1984–85 for Big City Records. Students of NYHC have no doubt seen countless "Ultra Violence album coming soon!" mentions in fanzines and on flyers, but for reasons lost to the sands of time, this record never came to be.

Though starting in 1981, the band didn't fully hit their stride until late '82/early '83 when the core lineup of Tommy Kennedy (bass), Dave Manzullo (guitar) and Charlie "Rage" Sclafani (drums) brought on local artist/shirt printer Tony "T-Shirt" Meyers as lead vocalist and began playing frequent gigs in the tri-state area and recording comp tracks for Big City Records. Other members came and went over the years, but the band developed a unique brand of slow and pounding metal-tinged hardcore that stands out from their early contemporaries, setting the stage for the crunch of late 80s NYHC but still firmly rooted in the sounds of New York City punk. Astute listeners may even catch a few crossover riffs and lyrics from Lower East Side Crew-era WarZone, as the bands shared a songwriter in drummer Charlie Rage.

This LP collects 16 tracks from the unreleased LP sessions along with all five of their Big City Records compilation tracks and a few choice live cuts from the band members' archives. In typical Radio Raheem style, also included is a 28-page, 12"x12" full-color booklet crammed with photos, flyers, and other ephemera, with liner notes by Tommy Kennedy.
